"Gut health" in peptide research means intestinal lining repair, protection against ulcers and inflammation, and recovery after surgery or injury, not digestion or gut flora in the probiotic sense. Exactly three peptides in this library have been studied specifically for it, and all three evidence bases are animal only. No human trial has tested any of them for gut healing. BPC-157: the deepest body of rat gut research, still all rat

BPC-157 is a 15-amino-acid synthetic peptide based on a sequence found in human gastric juice, developed and studied almost entirely by a Croatian research group led by Predrag Sikiric. Part of the researchers' rationale for testing it in the gut specifically is that the parent sequence occurs naturally in digestive fluid, so it is proposed to survive stomach acid and enzymes better than an arbitrary peptide would, an idea that has not been confirmed by pharmacokinetic work outside that same group. Their published work spans more gut-specific models than any other compound here: healing of surgical bowel connections (anastomoses) that would otherwise break down, short-bowel syndrome after major intestinal resection, fistulas, and colitis induced by chemicals such as cysteamine. A 2007 study reported that BPC-157 improved healing of ileoileal anastomoses in rats across several measures, including less swelling, fewer inflammatory cells and better tissue formation. A 2013 study from the same network reported it healed cysteamine-induced colitis and colon-to-colon anastomoses in rats, in a paper that also covered unrelated brain-injury findings.

The catch is that nearly all of this comes from one research group, across decades of its own publications rather than independently repeated work. No placebo-controlled human trial of BPC-157 for any gut condition has been published, and the one registered human trial involving BPC-157, for a knee ligament injury, is a different indication with no posted results. KPV: less famous, but replicated by more than one lab

KPV is the three-amino-acid tail end of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone, Lys-Pro-Val, studied specifically as an anti-inflammatory for the gut rather than for general tissue repair. Unlike BPC-157, its key studies come from separate research groups. Dalmasso and colleagues (2008) gave mice KPV in their drinking water and found it reduced the severity of both DSS-induced and TNBS-induced colitis, lowering inflammatory cytokine expression and tissue damage on histology. Kannengiesser and colleagues (2008), working independently, tested KPV in two different colitis models, DSS colitis and CD45RB-transfer colitis, and reported faster recovery, less weight loss and reduced inflammatory markers in both; in mice bred with a non-functional melanocortin-1 receptor, KPV treatment rescued the whole treated group from death during DSS colitis, which suggests its effect does not run entirely through that one receptor. Later groups, including Xiao and colleagues (2017), have tested KPV delivered inside nanoparticles or hydrogels aimed at the colon, a sign in itself that oral KPV alone does not reliably reach the gut intact. TB-500: a general wound-repair peptide with one recent gut-specific study

TB-500 is sold as a synthetic fragment of thymosin beta-4, a naturally occurring protein involved in cell migration and tissue repair generally, not a gut-specific compound. Most of its research base covers skin, muscle and tendon healing. The most directly relevant gut study is recent and uses a different form of the molecule: a 2026 paper reported that recombinant human thymosin beta-4, the full-length protein, reduced colitis severity and intestinal fibrosis in a rodent model, working partly by suppressing mineralocorticoid receptor signalling. That is not the same molecule as the short TB-500 fragment sold by research suppliers, in the same way that Khavinson's epithalamin extract is not the same molecule as synthetic epitalon. What "gut health" does not mean here

Two things are worth separating from the peptides above. First, GLP-1 medicines such as semaglutide and tirzepatide slow stomach emptying as part of how they work, which shows up as nausea, bloating and constipation in their trials; that is a side effect of an appetite drug, not a gut-healing effect, and it is covered in the side effect management guide. Second, gut microbiome and probiotic products sit outside the scope of this site, which covers only peptides and GLP-1 compounds.

Status in the Philippines

None of BPC-157, KPV or TB-500 is registered with FDA Philippines, and none has been approved anywhere for any gut condition. All three circulate here through research-chemical suppliers. BPC-157 and TB-500 were both named on the US FDA's list of bulk substances flagged as a possible compounding safety risk, over concerns including immunogenicity and, for BPC-157, a lack of information on human harm; those entries were withdrawn in April 2026 after the nominations were withdrawn, which is not the same as being approved.
